Filmmakers often use natural light to their advantage, especially when composing interview shots. If you seat a person near a window, facing the camera, you can use natural light to create an attractive highlight on the side of her face. At the point in the clip where you made an edit, the motion of the person walking would no longer look smooththe person would appear to jump. This is referred to as a jump cut. It jars the audience out of the flow of your work and alerts them to the fact action is missing.
